Susan Brownell Anthony (Adams, Massachusetts, February 15, 1820 - Rochester, New York, March 13, 1906) was an important, intelligent and independent writer, activist and U.S. civil rights pioneer, who played a crucial role in the movement 's emancipation of women in the nineteenth century, aimed to ensure the right of suffrage to women in the United States. He traveled extensively in the United States and Europe, taking from 75 to 100 speeches a year on women's rights for almost 45 years. Susan B. Anthony died in Rochester, New York at the age of 86 years, and is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery.
